So much of our lives feel out of our control. Many of us fear the lack of control we have. Some of us don't want that control and we offer it to the universe, or we give it over to destiny. But what is destiny? Do we have control over our destiny? Or is something greater than us controlling destiny and our lives? Does the universe control destiny?
The patterns and signs in the universe lead many to believe there's something bigger out there and that the universe itself controls our destiny. Famous thinkers, philosophers, physicists, and scientists try to explain the complexity of our lives and the universe we live in, but often they are stumped and admit that something greater is out there that makes the world work.
In this post, I'm going to go through the physical evidence we have, and the philosophical ideas from famous thinkers that surround the idea of destiny and the power of the universe. Then, I'm going to shed a different light on the thoughts and ideas.
Does the Universe Have Complete Control Over Us?
There's no evidence that the universe, or anything else, has complete control over us or our destiny. However, there is evidence to support the opposite because we have the freedom of our thoughts and actions. We also have the ability to fight against our own thoughts and beliefs. In other words, we have the ability to act against our emotions and conscience, or some would say we have the ability to deny our destiny.
Destiny, is believed to be a predestined outcome and is believed to be irresistible. Destiny may be more than an idea. But what does it mean when one says they will take control of their own destiny? Is it still considered destiny if we have control over it? It is possible the universe, or another supreme force, allows us to take control of our destiny and of our lives.
What are the Signs of the Universe?
There are things in our lives that are undoubtably a sign that something else is out there. Things that scientists cannot explain. Bees and humming birds should not be able to fly, but they do. Also, WE are signs of the universe and that something greater that's out there; our brain and our mind's complexity is a sign of something greater.
Even the world we live in is perfect for us. The celebrated mathematician and physicist, Freeman Dyson, said “As we look into the universe and identify the many accidents of physics and astronomy that have worked together to our benefit, it almost seems as if the universe must in some sense have known that we were coming.” In other words, the probability of how everything works for us to live and for earth to keep spinning, is almost none at all - not unless we were a plan.
Can We Trust the Universe?
The Alcoholics Anonyms Manual mentions putting faith in something bigger than ourselves. Alcoholics and other addicts have to admit to themselves that they cannot fight their addiction on their own. In order for them to change their lives they must rely on a higher power.
If that higher power is the universe and you can believe that the universe is in itself a higher power, then you are not alone in your fight. And you don't have to be an addict to benefit from the belief that there is a higher power out there helping you.
What is the Difference Between God and the Universe?
If you can believe the universe is our higher power, then you have to ask yourself: Where did it come from. Has the universe always been there? Or is God the creator of the universe? If it's possible that there is a higher power, then it's possible that the God of the Bible exists and is our higher power.
You do not have to blindly believe in God. He gave us His Word, the Bible, and plenty of evidence that His scripture is inspired by Him. Simply the existence of the Bible and its perfection and unified nature where there are no legitimate contradictions is plenty more proof of His existence.
John 1:1-5: 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. |
Final Thoughts
I hope this article helps you figure out somethings for yourself. Personally, I'm a Christian and I see evidence enough to support my faith in God, but you have to come to that belief yourself. I hope this encourages you to take a second look at Christianity, or to at least increase your faith that there is something greater that us, helping us, while also allowing us to control our own destiny.
